Affecting Business Drastically

Every business has one goal, to maximize its profit. This can be done by analyzing the demand of consumers, providing appropriate supply, along with maintaining quality of goods and services. However, there are many factors that affect this simple operation. Owing to these economic elements, the sales, production, and procurement of a business get adversely impacted.

Economic Factors That Influence Businesses

Demand and Supply
The demand and supply are two principal factors that affect the working of any business model. The demand is the will and ability of consumers to purchase a particular commodity, while supply is the ability of the business to provide for the demand of consumers. Suppose, a mobile phone infused with latest technology is introduced in the market, it will have a higher price because of its demand in the market. Its prices will continue to increase if the supply does not meet the demand.

For instance, in the year 2000, weather played havoc with the sugar crops of Brazil, which is the largest sugar producer in the world. This led to a decrease in the supply of sugar, which in turn resulted in a steep rise in the sugar prices. However, after the initial price rise, the market forces came into play and the demand for sugar became equal to the supplied sugar.

Marginal and Total Utility
Utility is the amount of satisfaction, that is derived by consumers from the consumption of goods. It so happens that after continuous and successive consumption of units of the same goods, the satisfaction that is experienced by a consumer starts decreasing. This often results in short-term or long-term fall in sales. Some organizations prepare for the launch of another brand, before the fall in utility and sales is experienced. The launch of new brand ensures that the revenue trend of the business does not fall. Diminishing utility is among the external factors affecting business.

For example, when we buy a pizza, the first few slices give us immense satisfaction. However, there is a fall in the satisfaction levels, when we are eating the rest. Let’s assume, the marginal utility derived on the consumption of the first slice was 90. However, due to diminishing utility, the second slice had the score of 80 and the third slice was just 70. The satisfaction derived on consumption will be in a decreasing order.

Money and Banking
Banking facilitates monetary and fiscal policies that affect business and also the customers of the business. Money in circulation dictates the purchasing power or rather the demand of the consumers. On the other hand, the banking facility dictates the borrowing capacity of individuals as well as the business. The banking policies play a decisive role in affecting the prices of goods and interest rates along with investment and asset prices. The monetary polices of countries also influence the economic activities and inflation. This whole dynamic process is also known as monetary policy transmission mechanism.

Economic Growth and Development
Economic growth dictates the amount of finances that the society at large is earning and development indicates the volume of money that is being invested into channels of long-term upgradation. Among all the economic factors, development is the most important one, as a business has to cater to the demands of an economically dynamic society. For example, the luxury brands perform well during an economic upturn, much more than the companies which produce essential offerings.

Income and Employment
Other important aspects of the economy that affects a business operation, are the employment density and rate of income. The per capita income and density of employment determines the rate of demand, density of demand, and also the purchasing power of the people. For example, during an economic upturn, there are employment opportunities which generate income that enables people to possess a stronger purchasing power. On the contrary, as the employment density and income rate go down during recession period, the purchasing power of the people also diminishes.

General Price Level
Another very important aspect of the economy that plays a part in the growth of business is the general price levels of commodities. Costs of raw materials, paying power of people, cost of production, and cost of transportation are some of the most important components that determine the general price levels and in turn, lower the profit margin of a business.

For example, an increase in the price will reduce the total revenue generated as there might be a dip in the demand. Let us assume that we have bought 16 pizzas for the price of $4. However, after an increase in the price of pizzas, we may get to buy only 8 pizzas even after shelling out $6.

Trade Cycles
A trade cycle plays a part in fluctuating the costs of goods and commodities in an economy. Prosperity, recession, depression, and recovery are the phases of a business cycle that affect the demand and supply of all goods. Also, trade cycles often affect the general price levels of essential and non-essential commodities.

Inflation
Inflation is a phenomenon that occurs when there is too much supply of money in the economy that is not supported by the output of goods and services. As there is a lot of money floating around, the prices of goods also increase in order to sustain the businesses, resulting in the increase of costs of raw materials which are needed for production. A hike in the prices of raw materials, thus, also increases the cost of a product.

In simple words, the buying capacity of people decreases, when their incomes remain constant but the prices of products and services increase. This affects the demand for the goods. For example, in 2008, Zimbabwe faced the worst case of inflation, which proved disastrous for its economy and led to the abandonment of its currency.

Recession
During recession, companies face a decrease in sales revenues and profits. To curtail cost, they resort to cutting back on hiring new employees, making capital expenditure, marketing and advertising expenditures, research and development activities, etc. This not only affects large organizations, but also the small ones which act as vendors to these big companies.

Smaller organizations may find it difficult to survive in recession due to lack of financial funds or availability of loans. Also, people may shift their preferences to slightly affordable products during recession or may not spend on luxury items at all. This will also have a negative impact on the demand for these products. Factors like falling stocks, lack of dividends, below par quality, employee lay-offs, bankruptcy, etc. during recession may also affect the business adversely. For example, in 2007, when the banking industry was unable to face the meltdown of the mortgage market, it inadvertently led to a free fall of the stock market and a decrease in consumer spending. It also set into motion a chain of events that resulted into a global recession within a year.

Exchange Rate
When a company buys certain goods from a US-based organization, it will have to convert its currency into US dollars for making the payment. If the currency of the buyer is stronger than the US dollar, it will be beneficial for the company. However, if it is weak, the company will have to shell out more money. This was an example of an export business. A similar logic will also be applicable to the import business. Moreover, price competition in the international market often leads to fluctuating prices. This is because a foreign company in the US market may increase or decrease its prices depending on the changes in the exchange rate.

Suppose some time ago, 1 pound was 1.5 US$. However, today, it may decrease to 1.3 US$ if the value of dollar appreciates. This will cause the imported goods from UK to become cheaper for the consumers in the US. However, this will not be a good news for US exporters as UK consumers will find that they are getting lesser returns for a pound’s worth.

Rate of Interest
The rate of interest has a direct impact on the loans that business take to sustain or propel their growth. The higher the interest rates, businesses find it difficult to commit to projects that require investment. On the contrary, lower rates make it easier for people to borrow money in order to buy cars and houses. Low loan rates also provide an opportunity to people to spend more on other things, thus creating a demand for various goods and services, and thereby spurring the growth of economy.

Government Regulations
There are several government agencies that regulate businesses for the safety of humans, animals, and environment. Some industries are heavily regulated and introduction of new laws discourage uncontrolled growth of factories and plants. For example, a coal-powered power plant may be asked to be shut down because of an environmental threat it poses. This may affect a business drastically.

Every changing factors in an economy affect the working of businesses. Hence, companies need to have a foolproof strategy and contingency revenue reserves to cope with such dynamic changes. It is best to take calculated risks and expand a business when the rates of interest are low and the demand is high.

Business Networking and How is it Applied

Networking is a very important component of any business. It is a medium to extend goodwill, share information and technology, and also add to the profitability of the venture. The business-to-business network or B2B is a strategy designed to meet the ever-increasing need to effectively route and apply fresh ideas among businesses. Recently, networking via meet-and-greet events has taken the whole exercise and outcome to the next level.

How is it Applied
The key to true business-to-business networking is the establishment of an understanding between two or more businesses, that are connected in some way or the other. The connectivity is established for both to benefit from the presence of the other. The application goes beyond the standard shake-hands-and-exchange-your-business-card events, that are often wrongly considered as forums for networking opportunities. The B2B strategy is applied to the existent business network or a new one, in order to increase revenue. It is essential to understand the interdependency of the market and industry prior to adopting the strategy. It operates through the development of relationships with existent and new clients, and learning new skills via exchange of business information, technology, and support.

Efficiency of B2B
The level of efficiency largely depends on the ability to listen patiently, and focus on how you relate to or co-ordinate with an individual or organization, in a way that the business profits. It is important that the interaction takes place within an exclusive space. This ensures that all the resources involved are directed towards immediate and long-term gains, and favorable results for all the parties involved. It also relies on the size of the networking group and the quality of information being shared.

B2B and the Entrepreneur
Any business is like an offspring of the entrepreneur. It gives him the opportunity to tie up with resources outside the business, to thrive and survive the competition well. It is initiated to complement the operations, that are common to the group, which eventually lead to the desired expansion. Networkers can capitalize on the experience by first and foremost, establishing connectivity with people or companies they would need for coexistence and growth.

The Networking Rostrum
Business networking is now professionally pursued with the dedicated services of ‘networkers’, who organize and facilitate easy accessibility and connectivity. When networking, time and effort is invested in helping each other. The rostrum is shared by like-minded people and businesses with complementing or dependent operations. There are highly effective networkers that ‘work the net’ into the function, with a common goal in focus. It is designed to create a win-win situation and cultivate a rapport between participants.

It is absolutely fine to first establish what the whole exercise has to offer your business. You should listen to every segment of the ‘net’ and then build a relationship with one or more participants. Remember, it is always a two-way understanding. You should be specific on referrals and reciprocate help whenever required. It is, but appropriate, that you make the most of the forum available, by participating in the network functions and being a part of the executive.

Different Forms of Social Media

unduhan-14Technology has advanced multi fold over the past few decades, and transformed how we perceive the world’s means of communication. It is a step up from the other types of media, also known as ‘industrial media’ or ‘traditional media’, like the television, documentaries, the newspaper and radio. Social media, in other words, comprises everything that has to do with the Internet. People for many years have relied on mediums from print and electronic media, to reveal happenings on another part of the globe. Be it news, entertainment or movies – it was never really within the reach of people, on a one-on-one basis. Now with the Internet, we surpass borders and blend in with other cultures and new worlds. We can virtually reach out to people worldwide within seconds, with web services now available on mobile phones and other web enhanced devices. The world shrinks down when the Internet comes into play, with its different forms of social media that have influenced present generations.

Difference Between Social Media and Print/Electronic Media

There are different types of mass media that come under what’s conventional and been around for centuries, namely the radio, television, newspaper and other types of print media. Find out how these two contrast one another, while still providing what audiences need in terms of information and knowledge.

Social Media Industrial/Traditional Media
Doesn’t require one to have any professional training when providing information online like – blogs, forums, polls, video uploads, photo sharing, emailing and so on. It is based on practice and constant use. This media requires one to have some knowledge / experience of the medium, with training and special skills.
Large-scale audience and reach. Large-scale audience and reach.
Available to users at a reasonable rate, or even free. Needs to be privately / publicly owned, before production can actually take place to be available to the people.
Information can be changed / edited / altered as and when the user wishes to. Once information is printed or given out, it cannot be edited or changed.
Social media is a quick interface, which updates itself within seconds and is accessed on the same day an event takes place. The time lapse is longer, and not as instantaneous as that of social media.
Shelf life isn’t an attribute in the case of social media, since these files are saved either on websites, or on one’s personal device. Takes up space, and needs to be physically accessed, as opposed to being a mouse click away.
More digitally enhanced, and constantly streaming with up-to-date feedback and footage. Mediums like radio and television can update news on the spot but cannot be viewed again like that of the Internet. Interaction is congested when viewers are asked to participate in discussions or forums, whereas people find it convenient to do so online instead.

These forms of social media are now becoming increasingly convenient for people to access, from the comfort of their homes. Whether it is ordering for take out, booking tickets for travel or shopping at home without having to go down to a mall – users are finding it easier to get everything they need, a mouse click away.

Interesting Topics of Conversation to Have Anytime, Anywhere

Be it a conversation with friends, colleagues, or people you have newly met, at times, you are left with just nothing to talk about. Or it so happens, that you can’t think of any good conversation topics and that brings an awkward silence in the communication. Everyone in the group then starts expecting someone else to start a conversation and a discussion that could have been fun, never even begins.

Conversations are so important, you know? It’s through them that ideas evolve, it’s because of them that cordial relations are maintained, and it’s due to them that conflicts can be resolved. Conversations enable a healthy exchange of views, they help bridge distances, and allow the building of friendships. It’s through conversations that we get to know people, we are able to socialize, and we can establish a connect with those we like. Here we give you topics that help you start a conversation and also make it interesting.

What makes a topic of conversation interesting? Well, it should invite wide participation, which is to say it should interest the majority. For this to happen, it should be chosen based on the age group and interests of the people involved and depending on the rapport they share with each other. Discussing a trending topic or something that is currently making the news, mostly invites a good participation, as everyone is likely to know about it. Travel experiences, incidents of having met new people, narrating amusing experiences in one’s life, or information about things less known, make for interesting conversation topics. Similarly, based on the age and interests of the group, topics related to sports, celebrities, technology, science, or philosophy can be brought up.
It’s very common to start a conversation with a “How are you?” and then proceed to asking about one’s favorite book, movie, travel destination, and the like. But to give an interesting start to the conversation, some questions like these could help. Here you go.

✦ What’s the meaning of your name?
✦ Who is the most influential person in your life?
✦ Which historical figure, famous personality or book/movie character do you best identify with and why?
✦ What kind of music do you like or dislike? Why?
✦ Where would you never like to go? Why?
✦ Have you had a life-changing experience? What was it?
✦ What is that one thing you can’t live without?
Or use questions like these.
✦ How would you describe your childhood?
✦ Who in your family or friend circle are you the closest to and why?
✦ What’s your idea of a perfect holiday?
✦ If you suddenly get a day off, how would you like to spend it?
✦ Where do you see yourself in another five years?
✦ Whose company do you enjoy the most?

If it’s a group of strangers or if you are initiating a conversation with someone you have just met, you will have to first understand their interests through questions like what their hobbies or fields of interest are. Then, based on their age and where they come from, you could start a conversation on politics, business, economics, sports, entertainment, or safer yet, a topic that’s in the news.

To begin a conversation, you could narrate an interesting incident in your life or a funny story you have read/heard. This helps you invite the group’s interest. Or you could voice your opinions on something and then invite their views on the same. This allows everyone to take part in the conversation and makes them feel involved. Asking open-ended questions or giving them a situation and asking how they would react, can also make a conversation interesting.

Recent developments in science and technology make good topics of conversation. A new research or study, new scientific discoveries, recent developments in technology, new gadgets entering the market, new apps, websites worth visiting or a new product and its features and cost-effectiveness in comparison to its competitors are some other interesting conversation topics.

For a conversation with colleagues, you could talk about the organization’s goals, ask them about their work and share what you do, if you belong to different teams or departments. You could discuss your current and upcoming projects and get to know theirs. A good knowledge sharing or understanding of each other’s roles in the organization leads to an interesting as well as a fruitful conversation. For a pep talk with your team, ask the members about their work, whether they like it, invite their suggestions on improving it, if applicable, and ask them to voice their concerns in case they have any. In a conversation with colleagues, strictly avoid discussing your or anyone else’s personal life. Also, do not entertain gossip.

Initiating an interesting conversation is one thing and maintaining a healthy one is another. To keep everyone interested in the conversation, it is important to be a good speaker as well as a good listener. Especially so when people of different age groups are involved or when everyone does not know each other very well. After having made your point, you should be able to invite the views of other participants, and through your tone and body language, make everyone feel included. While some have the knack to quickly pick up a point and enter a conversation, some others may lack the skill. While some are confident, some might be shy. You should be able to identify this and shape the conversation accordingly. You should be able to maintain the pace of it and keep it going. Topics that may hurt someone or those in which everyone may not be able to take part, should be avoided.

These interesting topics and suggestions should help you start and maintain a good conversation with people you know or those you have just met. Actually, it’s your will to make a conversation interesting that drives you to think of interesting topics too. So go ahead, choose one of these topics or come up with some of your own. Happy talking!

Uses of Computers in Society

Computers are, perhaps, the best invention by man so far. To understand their impact on society, we will first have to understand their meaning. A computer does not necessarily mean a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and a CPU. It is any machine or device that can compute and execute instructions given to it in the form of programs. So technically, even a cell phone is a computer. And so are desktops, laptops, tablet PCs, and PDAs. It includes anything that can perform a series of operations on its own. This gives us an idea as to how wide and deep its role is in our lives. We need this device for virtually everything. In the subsequent paragraphs, we will enlist all the applications and uses that these devices have in our society.

These machines are a great asset for space exploration. It is because of them that we have understood the universe, the planets, the Earth, the geographical aspects, and the topography.

Agriculture

The use of laptops in the agro-based industry have given a boost to the GDP of the nation. They have helped in assessing farmland, automation of equipment, and various other software, which have helped to revolutionalize this field into a profitable one. Through social media and online forums, a farmer can connect with his suppliers and clients, and even gain a lot of knowledge about his farm produce. There are many other applications in this field that have proven to be a boon to the farm workers.

Research

Scientific, business-oriented, education, space, or any kind of research would have been impossible had it not been for this outstanding invention. It has made gathering and analyzing data, performing experiments, etc., very easy. It is used extensively in this field, for researching topics that are spread far and wide.

Daily Use

An amalgamation of the above uses, the applications of this device in everyday life is also commendable. It helps us listen to our favorite music, watch videos, chat with our near and dear ones, research topics for projects, learn new things, store important data … the list is endless.

This is only the tip of the iceberg, as we can’t even imagine the ubiquity of computers in today’s life. However, this technology has also given rise to many vices, like identity theft, hacking, etc. One needs to use it only for a good purpose, and not misuse it. But the truth remains the same – the advantages supersede their disadvantages with pride.

How Flying Cars Will Work

unduhan-15For over a hundred years, right from the time when airplanes were invented, people have worked on inventing a ‘flying car’. It is only now, when science and technology have reached greater heights, that the dream of the common man owning his own personal air vehicle seems to be plausible. One of the biggest proofs of this new reality is the stamp of approval given by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the mass production of Terrafugia’s personal air vehicle, Transition. So to know how exactly this personal air vehicle will work, let us start from the basics.

Basics of Flying Cars
A flying car, as the name implies, is a vehicle that can be flown in the air and used on the roads. That means, it obviously has to have the basic characteristics of an aircraft (like propellers) and a car (like road tires). It would have to be light enough to fly in the air and strong enough to move on the road. Because a flying car would have the ability to land and drive, it would have to be able to take the impact of hitting the road and then moving on it uninterrupted, smoothly. Besides, it would have to be installed with additional safety features before being released for the public use.

Working of Modern Flying Cars

Though we commonly use ‘flying cars’ and ‘roadable aircraft’ as synonyms, they have a slight difference (which is easy to spot). Flying cars are cars adapted to fly while roadable aircraft are aircraft adapted to be used on the road. The inventors of the early flying cars worked more on adapting a car to fly in the air while the recent inventions of flying cars have been in adapting an aircraft for asphalt roads.

Whatever may be the case, a modern personal air vehicle will need to have the following modified features (all related to the basics discussed before):

Engines
These engines should have enough horsepower to lift the vehicle into the air and at the same time, be capable of providing controlled power for the vehicle to move on the road. The flying car will need to have an extra engine, if there is an engine failure during a flight.

Aircraft Propellers
Because the vehicle will be flying, it will obviously need the propellers (aircraft blades and wings) found on every aircraft. But as these wings will not be needed on the roads (obviously), they will have to be either easily detachable or foldable.

Landing Gear
To land the flying car on the ground, it will have to be fitted with the essentials found in the cockpit of a normal aircraft. It would have to be able to take the impact from the road and be able to balance itself to be used on the road.

Material
Needless to say, a flying car will have to be lightweight, yet have adequate ground mobility. While on the roads, a vehicle is more likely to be damaged but a slight damage on an aircraft can prove to be dangerous. So the material used in a flying car should be both light and strong.

Design
A road vehicle needs greater flexibility than an aircraft. An aircraft needs to be aerodynamically designed for better flight. The conclusion? A flying car should be small enough to fit on the road and big enough to fly. The requirements increase if the said personal air vehicle has to be parked in a house garage!

Fuel
If the oil crisis of the 90’s hadn’t occurred, Ford Motors would have marketed the world’s first flying car (Fulton’s Aerocar), at that time. The point here is, with the increase in fuel prices and decreased availability of fuels, a flying car will have to be run on eco-friendly, safe and inexpensive fuel, for better success in the market.

Safety Features
The reason aircraft manufactures haven’t invested much in trying to offer low-cost private aircraft has probably got to do something with safety issues related to flight. Air accidents are more dangerous and fatal than road accidents. So if the inventors of a flying car are aiming the market of the masses, they will have to make it safe. For that, they will have to include features like safety cages, air bags, parachutes and/or crush zones, etc., (yes, they will still have to watch their flying car’s weight!) in a personal air vehicle.

Flight Assistance
Being a pilot is not everyone’s piece of cake. If it were, the drop rates of Pilot Training in America wouldn’t be 50%. Add to that, the stringent rules laid by FAA for any pilot license and you have a major problem for companies that want to produce personal air vehicles. One way to avoid this is by making the vehicle fully computer controlled. Then the owner will have to put in the destination code or address in a GPS (or something similar) and the personal air vehicle will automatically fly to the destination. Apart from this, air control and airport help will also be required for the flying cars.

Because of all the requirements needed for it to work, a functional flying car might seem complicated and difficult, but it is certainly not impossible. For those who still think that flying cars are just a modern-day fad, here’s a thought: Horace Rackham (Henry Ford’s lawyer) was advised by the President of the Michigan Savings Bank that, “The horse is here to stay but the automobile is only a novelty, a fad”, when he wanted to invest $5000 into the ‘automobile’ company in 1901. How the ‘fad’ earned more than 12 million dollars for Horace is history. The world, in all probability, will have flying cars in the air before the end of this decade.

Importance of Technology in Schools

unduhan-13Technology is the need of the day. Technological advancements have made us take a big leap towards success. Every technological reform is a small step towards development. Every invention in technology is a step towards the progress of mankind. Centuries ago, hardly anyone would have imagined working on a computer, or being able to communicate with people across the globe with the use of web and cellular technology. But there were some who dared to dream of such revolutionary changes and made the ‘impossibles’ possible.
Ours as well as our future generations are lucky to be able to witness technological reforms. We are fortunate enough to lead a life of luxury and comfort, owing to technology.

To be able to use it comfortably and effectively, we need a basic knowledge of technology. Its ubiquitous nature just tells us how important it is, in every aspect of life. How can the education sector be an exception? As schools are the founding years of one’s education, it is important to train the students in technology at that stage itself. Also, technology can be adopted as an aid in teaching. Moreover, when everyone is going the e-way, how can schools fall behind? Technology is important in the education today. Let’s become more tech-savvy as parents and/or teachers. Let’s introduce our children to technology, right from school.

How and Why is Technology Important in Schools?

For the Students

As technology is bound to rule our present and future, it is good to obtain a know-how of using it. Children learn faster and can adapt to changes relatively easily. If they are trained in technology during school years, they have high chances of becoming experts in the field. An early beginning is always beneficial in the long run. We are surrounded by technology and are using it all the time. The earlier our kids can master its use, the better for their future. And that’s the main reason why we should train them in using it, from school age. If they learn to use it at a young age, they won’t have to struggle with it as adults.

Studies have shown that children conversant with technology show improvements in their writing, reading, and math skills. The use of computers and video games is known to improve the hand-eye coordination in kids. Technology has also contributed to the decrease in dropout rates, improvement in student attendance, and enhancement in their learning abilities. Technology in school benefits the children during their higher education. It lays a strong foundation of a successful professional life.

In Education

Computers can offer livelier explanations of various subjects (with the help of animations, videos, graphs, etc.). The Internet can be used as a tool in teaching. It can help both teachers and students in obtaining vast amounts of information in less time. The inclusion of technology in the process of learning makes it enjoyable, thus inviting greater interest from the kids. With the right use of lights and sound, information can be rendered more effectively to a large group. The knowledge from around the world can be accessed with ease, with the help of technology. The audio-visual format in which information is presented, makes it easier for the kids to assimilate it.

Technology can ease the communication between the teachers, students, and their parents. A teacher can quickly notify her students of important updates or anything they or their parents need to know. The students can collaborate better using technological means. Computers can be used to do and store homework and other school assignments. Students can be saved of the effort of having to carry books to school. They can carry all the material they need, in the digital format instead.

For the School

The accounts, administration, and other office procedures (such as admission, leave, attendance, etc.) can be simplified by the means of technology. Records of students, teachers, and other school employees can be maintained in an electronic format, thus saving paper and also ensuring robust storage and better data security. Timetables, the exam and holiday schedule, the plans for projects, trips, sports, and cultural activities for different classes can be organized in a better way, in computers. With the use of networking, this data can be accessed from anywhere and by all the concerned departments. Data for the school library, sports/gym equipment, and the records of the sale and purchase of inventory can be made and maintained with the use of computers. Thus, technology can bring all the office work in the e-format.

Moreover, the school can host a website of its own holding information about its activities, achievements, history, future plans, etc., thus increasing its reach. Publicity through social media can help the school earn new admissions and good staff. It can also help the institution advertise for positions to be filled, thus aiding the management in recruitment.

Thus we see that technology not only benefits the school students but also eases office work. It should be a part of what students learn, it should be a part of teaching so that learning becomes more fun, and it is of great help to the management to maintain staff and student information, as well as other important data related to the institution. This is because technology allows for an effective way of storage, access, and distribution of information. It’s time we realize its importance in education and implement it the right way.

Purpose Technology on Communication

The development of technology has considerably improved our lifestyle. It has made its impact felt on each and every aspect of life, including communication techniques. The development of communication has seen huge progress; from symbols to the latest swanky mobiles! Each century has seen a new addition to the ever-growing list of means of communication. The invention of the telephone by Alexander Graham Bell in the year 1875 was the first technological invention that impacted communication in humans to a massive extent. Other subsequent inventions like that of the Internet, cell phone, etc., further eased and changed the world of communication.

Effects of Technology on Communication
Everything has a positive and negative impact, and the impact of technology on the communication process also comes as a mixed bag. In this article, we will discuss the impact of popular technological elements like emails, telephones, cell phones, etc. Mobiles and the Internet are literally basic necessities these days. A majority of us would feel something missing in life, if there were no mobiles or Internet (Agree?).

Take the daily routine of a person in this tech-savvy world. The day begins with a “good morning message” on a mobile app and ends with a “goodnight” on the same app. The social networking apps/sites are, like a virtual world! The incessant use of mobiles and the Internet for communication, use modes like online chats, emails, teleconferencing, video conferencing, networking sites, etc., among other tools. Mobiles, emails, and social networking sites are the most popular means of communication among the current generation.

Technology has transformed the once big and far world into a tiny global village. Thanks to technology, we now have the power to communicate with anybody anywhere in the world. The points below summarize these benefits.

No Communication Barriers
With technology, communication is easy; even in cases when you want to convey something urgently to someone, mobiles and emails come in handy. Technology has made it easy to keep in touch with old contacts, and has strengthened relationships. Finding a date was never so easy, thanks to the dating and chatting websites! Technology is behind the success of long-distance relationships. Video chats and social networking sites have played a big role in keeping people in touch.

Better Development Solutions
Technology has brought the world closer and promoted exchange of thoughts to find better solutions to any problem. Advancements in the modes of communication have promoted faster decision-making, and led to the development and progress of the world. Most businesses depend on technology for communication. For example, video-conferencing has made it possible to give the best education to students via expert faculty on the web.

The most prominent negative effect of technology – the charm of the good old world is missing. The letters, and lengthy face-to-face conversations have gone away, and have been replaced by texting or chatting.

Negative Impact of Technology on Interpersonal Communication
The current generation lacks essential interpersonal skills (the ability to express the ideas and thoughts to others, face-to-face). A major reason for this is the increased frequency of communication through texting and chatting on websites. This has an effect on nonverbal communication as well. Technological means have also affected nonverbal communication. Lack of face-to-face interaction has reduced the nonverbal grasping power of individuals.

Technology Weakens Family Relations
Many teenagers are always hooked to the social networking sites. They are closer to online friends, but the gap between parents and kids has increased considerably. Communication is lacking, as parents are not techno-savvy to the communication styles of the kids, increasing the generation gap. Consider socializing among people. Life has changed a lot; very few social meetings and get-togethers are held these days. People are more bothered about their online life, than their real social life.

Unlawful Use and Addiction to Technology
Modern communication technology has led to many problems. People have become addicted to the Internet and cell phones, and this has led to many anxiety disorders. People addicted to the Internet feel lonely and isolated. Many people abuse social networking sites and communicate with unsuspecting victims pretending to be someone else.

This tendency has done more harm than good.
As you can see technological communication is a double-edged sword. It all depends on how we use these means; use the technological means of communication for sane purposes, and don’t abuse them for malicious motives.

Positive Effects of Technology on Society

Technology runs in the veins of society. It is the fuel that drives our lives. It is an integral part of daily life. It has definitely benefited society. It has brought luxury in the life of the common man. Automation brought about by technology has saved human effort and time to a large extent. It has brought distant places closer and simplified information access. It has made the world a smaller place to live in.
Let us look at some of the important areas, where technology has brought a positive change.

Automation in Industry and Household
Technology has automated many of the critical processes in the industry as well as the household. Imagine the amount of labor that must have been involved in industrial processes when the concept of automation did not exist. Electronic gadgets have entered homes of the common man to rescue him from the boredom of daily chores. Imagine the amount of time people must be spending doing household chores during the time there were no machines and household appliances. Today’s is the age of robotics. Machines can learn, adopt new things and perform tasks with near-human efficiency.

Changed Modes of Transport
The automobile industry and technology are interwoven. Time has witnessed this industry evolve from mechanical scooters to automated aircraft. Animals were the only modes of transport in the olden days. Technology was the driving force behind the creation and design of the modern-day automobiles. Bicycles evolved into scooters and sports bikes. The idea of having four-wheeled modes of transport gave rise to the creation of cars. Modes of air and water transport came up, thanks to technology.

Reduced Risk to Human Life
Machines have automated many crucial industrial processes. Machines are now taking up mundane jobs that were once done by human workers. Technology has evolved to an extent where machines can perform tasks that are not feasible for man, either because they are risky or life-threatening or because they are beyond human capacity. The use of advanced technologies like robotics and artificial intelligence has proven to be helpful in life-risking endeavors like mining and space exploration.

Data Management and Information Retrieval
Computer technology, needless to say, has changed the face of the world. Computers can store, organize and manage huge amounts of data. They can process large amounts of information. Computers have given rise to the software industry, one of the most progressive industries of the world. The Internet that seeded from computer networking concepts is the most effective communication platform and the largest information base existing today.

Impact on Entertainment and Advertising
The Internet has brought a positive change to the entertainment and advertising industries. Over the Internet, advertisements can reach the masses within seconds. Internet advertisements have changed equations of the advertising industry. Branding on the Internet is much more effective that other forms of product promotion. The entertainment media has progressed because of advancements in technology. Movies, songs, games are a few clicks away. People have begun using the Internet to watch and download movies, listen to music, play games and entertain themselves. Thanks to handy, mobile and user-friendly devices, all this has become really easy.

Onset of the Digital Age
There’s hardly anything analog now, we live in a digital world, a digital age. Talk pixels and bytes. The digitization of information has enabled us to store it in a compact form. Ever wondered how gigabytes of data can be stored on a small chip? Digitization it is! Also, digitization enriches the quality of data storage. Digital voice and images are of a higher quality. Digital cameras and TVs provide users with an enriched picture quality, thus bettering user experience with technology.

Communication Redefined
Cellular communication has revolutionized the communication industry. The conventional telephone, also a piece of technology, was one of the earliest technological developments in communication. Mobile phones have broadened the horizons of communication by enabling convenient long-distance calling and mobile use. Letters have taken a backseat and emails and cell phone messages have become the easiest means to connect. Owing to developments in technology, communication is wireless. Social networking is another defining factor here. It has given an all-new dimension to communication, entertainment and recreation.

Satellite Technology
Satellite communication is an important facet of technology. Satellite TV and satellite radio have eased the broadcasting of events across the globe. How else do you think could matches and concerts be broadcasted live? Not just TV and radio, even communication to ships and airplanes wouldn’t have been possible if not for satellite communication. Even your hand-held devices wouldn’t be of use, if not for radio communication.
These were still a few fields influenced by technology. It is almost impossible to enlist all the positive effects of technology on society. The fast-advancing technology on the whole, has given impetus to developments in various fields and improved the quality of human life. There’s less risk, less effort, less mess. There’s more leisure, more ease and more speed – all because of that ten-letter word – not a word, a phenomenon – technology.
